Peace in the North Peace is the guiding theme and title for the show. This theme is designed to evoke works representing how or where Peace may be found against the backdrop of our highly industrialized part of the province.

This workshop is intended for any level of printmaker from beginner to novice.
Workshop is limited to 10 participants. Supplies are included. Bring your own tools, if you have them.

Each year the Peace Art Gallery Society calls upon the talent of local Artists, Artisans & Craftspeople to offer a unique piece of original art to be auctioned. The society relies on the generosity of the Arts Community and Local Businesses to support the Arts in our area. This fund raising event enables P.A.G.S. to continue to encourage and support the Arts with workshops, free childrens’ programs, bursaries, exhibition openings and so much more.

Hello Flying Colours People,

We hope the summer has been good to you, and not washed you away! We are lucky enough to have book artist/printmaker Sara Norquay returning to this part of the world from Edmonton to offer us a bookmaking workshop. Those who have been involved in printmaking may have attended some of Sara’s great workshops in the past and seen her lovely hand made books. We will spend two days with Sara learning to make a variety of books by hand. Take a look at her beautiful website and follow her on Instagram for some great samples of her work.

The 36th Annual Art Auction is coming in October and we want you to see what will be going on the Auction Block!

Join us for opening night of the Auction Preview Exhibit and enjoy the music of Intermezzo, appetizers and refreshments from the Cultured Cafe, and a Celebration of the Artists who continue to make the Auction possible!

An exciting Pit Firing Workshop with Ken Lumbis, sculptural Ceramic Artist, (www.KenLumbis.com) who will introduce you to some of the pit-firing techniques that he uses to create his ceramic sculptures; primarily wall-mounted pieces.

A variety of topics will be covered with a powerpoint presentation as well as demonstrations. Topics covered will include pre-firing techniques, pit-firing procedures and additives, post-firing treatments and mounting/display options.

Ceramic panels will be provided for each participant to prepare for a pit-firing that will occur on site. Decorative elements and pit-firing additives will be provided. Participants may bring pieces of copper, small in size, that they might want to incorporate as a decorative element. The pieces will then be treated as necessary. In addition Ken will have some of his finished works here to exemplify various techniques.

The workshop will take place at Miep’s Studio Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25 beginning at 10:00. Sunday will likely be a short day as the items will have been fired later Saturday and cooled overnight to be removed from the pit on Sunday. You may wish to bring your own lunch or some delectables to share. Coffee and Tea and Water are provided.

Cost of the workshop is $100 payable in full upon registration with Mary Parslow. mparslow As local Potters are eager to join this workshop, register ASAP as there are merely 15 spots available!

Darryl will use Cobra water washable oil paints for this workshop. He will provide all the paint. No extra cost for you.

The workshop will run from 10am - 4pm both days.

You will need to bring Lino-cut tools and brayers if you have them. We can have paper and most of the tools available here at a small cost.

If you are not a member of Flying Colours or PRFCA you will need to pay a once a year fee of $35 extra.

Darryl Funk is an artist from Chilliwack BC and will teach this two day oil painting workshop. He is a representative of Royal Talens Cobra paints and will be bringing a large supply of colors for us to use at the workshop so that we can try them out. Cobra paints are water washable oil paints which makes cleaning up very easy. Just water no harsh clean up mediums or varnishes.

The workshop will run from 10am - 4pm both days.

All you need to bring is a canvas or canvases, any size you prefer, brushes, a palette and a water jar.

If you are not a member of Flying Colours or PRFCA you will need to pay a once a year fee of $35 extra.

Mike will demonstrate how he begins his paintings on Feb. 9. Participants will begin their paintings using their own photo references. he will continue his painting and on Feb. 23, he will provide individual help as artists continue to work on their paintings. Mike will also continue to work on his own painting during the class.

Donna wil share tips from the workshops she attended in London last summer.

The show will open on Friday, February 3rd and runs to Saturday, February 25th. Images of all submissions, in the medium of choice and reflecting on what Canada means to you, should be emailed to the gallery by mid-January (Wednesday, January 18th) for curatorial purposes. All pieces need to be at the gallery by Saturday, January 28th ready to hang for exhibition (please have 2-D work wired or with saw-tooth hangers)
